Subtraction Using Number Grid
Subtraction can be performed using a number grid by moving backward by as many spaces as the other number.
Following steps are required to solve the statement
1. To subtract the digit at ones place we will start from the first number and we will move backward number of steps equal to the digit at ones place
2. To subtract the digit at tens place we will move upwards number of steps equal to the digit at tens place.
Let us consider the following example:
Subtract 11 from 74
74 - 11 = ?
1. To subtract the digit at tens place that is 1 in the number 11. We will start from the first number that is 74 The number is shown with red colour and we will move upward by number of steps equal to the digit at tens place that is 1
2. To subtract the digit at ones place we will move backward number of steps equal to the digit at ones place that is move 1 steps backward and reach the digit 63
The process is shown below:.
Hence on subtracting 11 from 74 we get 63.
